Giants place Buster Posey (head) on concussion disabled list

With a runner at third in a scoreless first inning, Posey took a 94 miles per hour fastball from Arizona Diamondbacks starter Taijuan Walker to the left side of the helmet, toward the back.

A Taijuan Walker pitch plunked Posey in the helmet, leading to his removal from the Giants-Diamondbacks game. The Giants visit Kansas City next Tuesday and Wednesday and manager Bruce Bochy said it's possible Posey could DH during those games.

Taijuan Walker's 0-1 fastball with two outs in the first inning sent the Gold Glove catcher immediately to ground.

Because we saw Joe Panik when he got hit in the head past year by Matt Moore, not only did he stay in that game, he hit a three-run homer later in that game and then it wasn't until a day or two later that he started to realize something was wrong.

Walker was booed at the conclusion of the inning and every time out thereafter. Moore also pitched eight innings of three-hit ball, so he truly did it all this afternoon.

Kemp is eight for 16 with four doubles and two home runs. He did not walk a batter but did bean David Peralta in the eighth inning.

The Giants honored longtime Major League Baseball senior executive Katy Feeney, who died April 1 at age 68. He's been utilized as an emergency catcher of sorts in recent years.

The Giants made the move for Hundley for exactly this reason. "She was a tremendous help to me".

Diamondbacks: Bench coach Ron Gardenhire is away from the club, with Jerry Narron the acting bench coach. "We'll miss him", Lovullo said.

Bullpen swap: Left-hander Steven Okert went back to Triple-A after three games and no appearances, as Hunter Strickland returned from paternity leave. The Diamondbacks continue to get production from their pitching staff, as Arizona has allowed a combined 14 runs in its last five games, keeping this team in games until the very end.

This was more like what the Giants had in mind when they entered the season widely expected to contend for a playoff spot and to challenge the Los Angeles Dodgers for NL West supremacy.
