Nashville wound up outshooting Chicago 49-36.
There are few thrills quite like overtime playoff hockey, and the NHL hasn't had a night with this sort of excitement in more than 30 years.
The series resumes Thursday night in Bridgestone Arena with Game 4 as the Predators try for what would be a stunning sweep of the conference's top regular-season team. "Johnny [Toews] willed the Game 7 into overtime, and obviously Game 7 in overtime, anything can happen". Carrie's show of support at her husband's game is all the proof in the world that they're still very much in love! Everyone will undoubtedly be sick of hearing and saying it's all about taking one game at a time. All eight first-round series have included at least one OT finish.
Senators defenseman Mark Borowiecki is day to day with a lower-body injury, but Ottawa got back defenseman Marc Methot in Game 2 for the first time since he was hurt March 23.
"Once you do something, you can say, 'Hey, we've done that before.' " Predators coach Peter Laviolette said of his team's knack for mounting comebacks. With less than four minutes remaining in the first overtime period, Swiss rookie Kevin Fiala scored the game-winning goal. Neal passed the puck to Fiala along the boards, who dropped to puck back to Neal.
The quickest end came in Calgary, where Anaheim stunned the Flames.
Sure, Game 3 was filled with flukes that ultimately came back to haunt the Blackhawks.
Boston's TD Garden crowd didn't disperse so easily. Game 3 revealed the slim margin playoff hockey often brings. Bozak's goal 1:37 into overtime, putting the Leafs ahead of Washington 2-1 in their first-round series.
"A lot of guys played great hockey tonight", Ellis said.
He also has some qualities that you just can't teach, though.
It was the fourth time in the last four years the Hawks have lost a two-goal lead in the third period of a playoff game.
But the Predators were a handful most of the night due to their speed, and they managed to win the game on the 49th registered shot on Crawford. But don't overlook the magnitude of what the Preds are doing: It's not just that the Blackhawks are a consistently tough out in the playoffs, with a core of players that's won three Cups since 2010. Only four National Hockey League teams in history have rallied from a 3-0 series deficit to win that series.
"Please rise and welcome seven-time Grammy victor and longtime Nashville Predators fan Carrie Underwood", the announcer told the sold-out crowd as Carrie belted out the national anthem.
Denied on two golden chances earlier in the extra period, Fiala converted his third point-blank opportunity at 16:44 to deliver a 3-2 win and a 3-0 series lead for Nashville early Tuesday.
