What he might not have figured on, however, was how many entries he would have on the all-time firsts list at SunTrust Park. The Braves played in the old stadium, built for the 1996 Olympics, for only 20 years.
The Braves hope fans take advantage of the dining and shopping options in the complex around the park.
Colon allowed only a hit in seven dominant innings, Brandon Phillips drove in three runs with three hits and Atlanta beat the San Diego Padres 9-2 on Sunday for its fourth straight win.
Ender Inciarte admitted he had a nice, calm feeling entering the Atlanta Braves' home opener Friday. It was his third home run of the season.
Weaver allowed two bases-empty home runs but just one other hit in six innings.
The festivities kicked off with a "welcome home" featuring several of the Braves' stars from yesteryear, including Hank Aaron, Bobby Cox, Tom Glavine, Chipper Jones, Dale Murphy, Phil Niekro and John Smoltz. Inciarte gave Atlanta some breathing room in the sixth with a two-run shot into the right-field seats, his third homer of the season.
Over the course of the last 12 IP for courageous relievers, they have allowed 2 hits, 0 earned runs, 1 BB, and have 13 K's.
Friday night was not just about sports and a new home season for the Braves, it marked Cobb's emergence as a big-time sports venue and entertainment district.
Reliever Jose Ramirez got out of the seventh thanks to a double play niftily turned by Phillips at second base and Jim Johnson pitched a flawless ninth for his third save in as many games.
"I was very mad about those two at-bats", Phillips said. "This place, I don't think you're going to have to necessarily crush one to get it out of here".
"I like the way they have taken different aspects from different parks", Witzel said. The three-story Chop House bar was packed full of patrons, some holding beers that were aged with baseball bat wood.
The Braves also made a move before game, calling up right-hander Luke Jackson from Triple-A Gwinnett and sending down right-hander Jason Hursh. But with two off days this week, manager Brian Snitker decided go with Teheran on Friday instead. The Braves' two-run lead evaporated in the second inning, however, when Atlanta starter Julio Teheran had the unfortunate distinction of allowing the first runs to an opposing team, serving up back-to-back RBI singles to Chacin and Manuel Margot.
Santana's (3-0) won his third straight start, striking out eight, walking one and retiring his final 18 batters as he lowered his ERA to 0.41.
Twenty years earlier, Jones helped christen Turner Field, which never seemed like a place the Braves would leave until November 11, 2013, when longtime team executive John Schuerholz announced the franchise would be moving to the corner of I-75 and I-285 in Cobb County at the start of this 2017 season. A recent study showed Atlanta is in the top 10 of the worst congestion in the world, and the stadium is where two of the clogged interstates, I-75 and I-285, intersect, which means the rush-hour snarl could coincide with fans trying to get to the games.
