Amazon will share this technology with other device makers via an invitation-only program. Apple really struggles to extend the reach of their technology because, unlike Microsoft, it doesn't license its operating system.
Inside this development kit will be a set of hardware components and support software.

"With this release, we are making it easier for commercial device manufacturers to build and launch far-field products with Alexa by reducing development time and cost".
It is no secret that Amazon Inc. wants to put its Alexa smart assistant into pretty much anything with a computer chip in it, and today the online retail giant has taken another step toward that future by opening up the voice technology behind its Amazon Echo products. "With this new reference solution, developers can design products with the same unique 7-mic circular array, beamforming technology, and voice processing software that have made Amazon Echo so popular with customers". Included in the hardware solution will be the 7-microphone array identical to the one found in Amazon Echo; Amazon's proprietary software for wake word recognition, beamforming, noise reduction, and echo cancellation; and reference client software for local device control and communication with the Alexa Voice Service. The new platform is created to simplify the creation of new voice-control devices and will enable customers and partners to develop their own devices with Alexa.
It will invite certain device manufacturers to participate in the offering after reviewing their applications, made on Amazon's website.
