Thor enters battle arena in 'Thor: Ragnarok' teaser trailer

Under direction from Taika Waititi, the hyper-colourful teaser raked up more than 136 million views in 24 hours. The closest competitor was Captain America: Civil War - which only managed 94 million.

The first trailer for Thor: Ragnarok is packed with tons of stuff from the comics (Planet Hulk!) and features many new villains and allies.

"Thankfully, MCU has again hit the jackpot with the Led Zeppelin's 'Immigrant Song" The song, which was also used in the opening credits of the Hollywood version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, is the flawless tone-setter with Jimmy Page's immortal guitar riff and Robert Plant's wail.

"Chris Hemsworth is the lead actor in the movie "Thor" Ragnarok". The film is slated to be released in the USA on 3 November.

"Thor Ragnarok" is the third film in the series following the highly successful 2011, "Thor" and its sequel "Thor: The Dark World". The trailer is amusing to a degree that only Guardians had managed before in terms of Marvel movies, and in a way that seems at once sillier and more self-aware.

But other fans have complained that the trailer's tone veers into Guardians of the Galaxy territory with its jokes and rock music backdrop (Led Zeppelin, in this case), while seeming to forget that both previous Thor movies were actually pretty amusing too, especially the first one.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly last month, director Taika Waititi teased fans that the new Marvel movie will watch Hemsworth's amusing side in the foreplay.

The trailer begins as most Thor trailers do, with Thor swinging his hammer Mjolnir toward evil, only this time, the evil doesn't flinch.

The trailer is already filled with his signature style like when Thor calls Hulk as his former buddy from work.

There is considerable buzz around the latest Thor outing, not least because of Waititi's original take on the superhero franchise, which he has chose to set outside the Marvel universe.

Thor: Ragnarok comes to United Kingdom cinemas on October 27 and will hit theatres Stateside in November. In a real doozy of footage, fans get a good look at many key elements from the upcoming film starring Chris Hemsworth as he takes on both Loki (Tom Hiddleston), the exiled Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Ruler of the Underworld Hera (Cate Blanchett).
