UP CM Yogi Adityanath orders probe into sugar mill sale

"This is obvious that the new government will change the name of schemes carrying any particular party's name", he added.

"The CM appealed to public to not take law in their own hands and said that the state government respects the public sentiment", a state government spokesperson said.

Political leaders of the previous government who named schemes after themselves or their parties will soon be a thing of past in Uttar Pradesh.

Suspecting a scam of about Rs 1,100 crore, the Uttar Pradesh government has made a decision to conduct a probe into the sale of 21 sugar mills in the state during the BSP rule in 2010-11. Now, Mukhyamantri yojna word will be used instead of Samajwadi.

Days after it called a judicial inquiry into the alleged financial mishandling of the Gomti River Front, a pet project of Akhilesh Yadav, the Yogi Adityanath government has ordered a probe into the sale of sugar mills\ during the tenure of Ms. Mayawati.

There are 18 schemes carrying the "Samajwadi" prefix including Samajwadi 102 Ambulance Service and Samajwadi Pension Scheme.

Earlier, the BJP Government had chose to not distribute over 60 lakh ration cards printed by the Akhilesh Yadav Government as they featured a photograph of the former Chief Minister. The salt distributed through the PDS was known as "Samajwadi namak".

The Samajwadi Party has objected, saying the word "Samajwadi" or Socialist finds a mention even in the Indian Constitution and must "not be dragged into politics".

Directions were given in a meeting chaired by Adityanath earlier this week to the state officials to bring out a Yoga education programme in every school in the state.
