UC Davis looked awfully careless with the ball during its First-Four victory over North Carolina Central on Wednesday night.
UC Davis slipped past North Carolina Central 67-63 in a matchup of 16 seeds.
Senior guard Brynton Lemar added 15 points and made three 3-pointers and five rebounds, while Lawrence White finished with 14 points in the for UC Davis, which moves on as a 16th seed to take on Kansas in the Midwest Regional on Friday in Tulsa.
The Wildcats wrapped up their second NCAA Division II West Region Championship over the past four seasons with three-straight wins over higher seeds this week, culminating with a win over UC San Diego - the league's regular season and postseason tournament champions.
Sitting in front of his locker inside BOK Center during Thursday's final tune-up for the start of the Jayhawks' 2017 NCAA Tournament run, Jackson discussed how the disappointment of that one-game suspension has weighed heavily on his mind since the day he sat out.
Whether or not Kansas is a popular pick to work its way through the NCAA Tournament bracket this time around probably doesn't matter to the Jayhawks.
All the Jayhawks did after that was go 16-2 in the Big 12 to win the conference yet again.
Providence outshot Southern Cal 49 percent to 42 percent, but the Friars outscored them in the second half 46-27. "I feel we are going to do all we can to make that happen". "I'm so happy for these guys". They have really good habits.
"They (Aggies) will be fired up to play", Jackson said.
Aggies head coach Jim Les is no stranger to achieving NCAA Tournament success at mid-major programs. Les took his alma mater, Bradley, to the Sweet 16 in 2006. The Jayhawks own 14 Final Four appearances and three national titles in their storied history. And the process is just our possession-by-possession approach and being the best we can be.
"I do think it's a little bit of a disadvantage not knowing who you're going to play the first game", Self said earlier in the week. "I tell them all the time there isn't anything I didn't experience from being a guy that came off the bench the last guy on the bench to being a starter to being the leading scorer to being the guy who scored the least". We keyed in on a couple of things that we needed to improve on.
Just as the Aggies looked to seize the moment, the Eagles forced three consecutive turnovers out of a half court 1-3-1 trap, getting them right back into the contest. To me that's my value to them because they all go through those journeys along the way during a college career. I feel we care so much. "Great kids, great character and they're a joy to coach".
Les followed his son, Tyler, to UC Davis as Tyler was recruited out of Peoria Notre Dame High School. "A lot of people have been coming out of nowhere and congratulating me and sending me friend requests on Facebook and stuff like this".
"It's both. We got a lot of rest", Jackson said. It's pretty interesting to get that, but I'm very grateful for it. I'd love to be able to get (Former Oklahoma State) Coach (Eddie) Sutton to the game, if that's possible, but I don't know if that's going to be possible.
