New Monopoly tokens revealed

The original boot, thimble, and wheelbarrow pieces will be replaced by a Tyrannosaurus rex, a penguin, and a rubber ducky, AP reports. We now know what tokens will grace the board of the latest version of Monopoly.

Those confused parties - namely younger players who have no clue what a thimble is used for - will probably be psyched about the new tokens coming to the game.

On Friday, Hasbro announced the winners (and losers) of the vote.

Monopoly just got rid of three of its classic game pieces.

The decision was made by more than 4.3 million voters from 146 countries.

Monopoly fans were asked to select their favorite eight tokens from 64 possible options. The first games came with 10 pieces: the iron, purse, lantern, race vehicle, thimble, boot, top hat, battleship, cannon, and rocking horse. The duck came in fifth, and the penguin placed seventh. Four classic pieces survived the voting: the Scottie dog, car, top hat and battleship, some of which date as far back as the Great Depression.

Some of the success of the tokens making their way into, or keeping their spot in the MONOPOLY game can be attributed to many brands and organizations campaigning for select tokens.

The vote order for these final, top eight were: Scottie 212,476, T-Rex 207,954, top hat 167,582, auto 165,083, duck 160,485, cat 154,165, penguin 146,661 and battleship 134,704.

In 2013, Monopoly lost the clothes iron and gained a cat. Those five will be joined by the three new tokens later this year.

According to USA Today, the announcement was timed with Sunday's World Monopoly Day.
