A high-speed chase ended badly for an 18-year-old fugitive after he was sent careening several feet into the air upon losing control of a stolen pickup in Webster Parish, Louisiana.
As the officer was speaking to the driver, Austin allegedly jumped into the driver's seat and took off.
CNN reports the truck lost control and went airborne, hitting a parked auto with a woman inside.
Police say the driver got out of the truck and took off, but was quickly captured by deputies.
On Tuesday, authorities told KSLA-TV that they spotted Austin in a pick-up truck after they pulled him over in Webster Parish.
They say Kevonte Dekorey Austin hit speeds of up to 115 miles per hour before hitting spike strips at a road block. The deputy handcuffed the driver and quickly gave chase. The truck landed on a parked auto in a restaurant parking lot, crushing the vehicle. "God was with me", Harlon told KSLA.
He had been in jail for auto theft and had escaped custody when ditching a work-release programme after finishing his shift. A woman, Barbara Harlon, was in the vehicle at the time but somehow escaped unhurt.
