The new Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid sees the sportscar manufacturer launch a plug-in hybrid model as the flagship of a model line for the first time. That will also add 0.1 seconds to the 0-60 miles per hour time, though makes up for it with rear axle steering, 8-way power rear seats with comfort headrests, and quad-zone climate control.

That means that the coming plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model will actually be the "most powerful" auto in the Panamera line yet released - a testament to the value of electric vehicle technology in improving performance in sports cars.

All these impressive statistics are matched by the swoopy four-door's claimed fuel use which comes in at a bargain basement figure of just 2.9L/100km - albeit this is based on claims that the green machine can run on electric power alone for up to 50km. As to all-electric performance, the automaker says the Panamera can drive on its battery for up to 50 kilometers (about 41 miles). This is made possible due to a powertrain that is comprised of a 4.0-liter 550-horsepower V8 engine and a 136-horsepower electric motor. The technology comes from the 918 Spyder which uses an electric motor combined with the power of a twin-turbo-boosted V-8. The ECA ensures quick response and excellent comfort. As in all other second-generation Panamera models, the fast-shifting Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) with eight gears is used to transmit the power to the standard adaptive all-wheel drive system Porsche Traction Management (PTM). With a capacity of 14.1 kWh, the car's lithium-ion battery pack can be fully charged in six hours. A 7.2 kW charger is an option; pair that with a 240 V, 40 amp supply, and it can get the battery full in under three hours. A smartphone app can begin charging. It will also feature the company's latest luxury features, like a 12.3-inch touchscreen with the Porsche Communication Management system.

The vehicle will come in a standard wheelbase and an executive wheelbase.
