Brandon Jennings not an option for Detroit Pistons — SVG

Following a quiet trade deadline, the New York Knicks reportedly altered their roster Monday by waiving point guard Brandon Jennings. Well, because they are the Knicks.

In eight appearances with Philadelphia, he averaged 5.3 points in 9.3 minutes. It's not like he had an unfriendly contract either.

The Knicks' front office and coaching staff hadn't been enamored with Jennings' mindset admit the team's struggles this season, league sources said, and ownership agreed to pay him the balance of the $5M million owed him on his contract this season. Or maybe it's not.

There are already rumors swirling around about the destination of what would be a very helpful second unit point guard. But the apparent reason behind Jennings' release is quite the different story.

I think this is just an OK fit. Way down. They have lost 13 of their last 15 games.

"(Ramon) Sessions is hurt, and he hasn't been thrilled there. However, the rookie from Stanford has an impressive 5.3 points-per-game average in his limited action.

"He's going to go to Charlotte", Van Gundy told a group of Detroit reporters Monday afternoon.

Reports suggest the decision isn't final with the Washington Wizards also in the running.

The Wizards are one of the hottest teams in the league, sitting at 34-23, 3rd in the Eastern Conference. His defense is well below average, and he has the 15th worst Net Rating in the National Basketball Association (qualifiers: 40 games played, 10 minutes per game). They've alleviated some of that problem with Trey Burke, Kelly Oubre Jr.

If the New York Knicks are going to make a playoff push, it will come without two of the key veterans they signed last summer.
