Lloyd will play for the FA Women's Super League 1 champions in the 2017 Spring Series, the FA Women's Cup and for the remainder of City's UEFA Women's Champions League campaign.
Carli Lloyd is heading to Manchester City after signing with the Women's Super League team.
Press Association Sport understands an announcement is likely to come on Wednesday, with the United States attacking midfielder joining the English champions on a short-term basis from the Houston Dash.
Lloyd recently played for the Houston Dash in the National Women's Soccer League where she made 17 appearances and scored 6 goals.
Three or four years would take the 34-year-old Lloyd through the 2019 World Cup for sure and nearly certainly through the 2020 Olympics.
"I have experienced a lot; World Cups, Olympics and being at the Fifa World Player of the Year Awards". I always want to continue to get better and look for ways where I am going to be able to push my game. "I don't think I have all the answers or think that I don't need to improve on anything".
In an interview posted on the Manchester City website, Lloyd said, "Throughout my career, I'm always looking for different challenges".
"Having played in the US throughout my career, the chance to fulfill a long held ambition to test myself in a new footballing environment.is something I am relishing", she said.
U.S. captain Lloyd becomes the third American player to move to an English club this winter, after winger Crystal Dunn's move to Chelsea Ladies and midfielder Heather O'Reilly's switch to Arsenal. Heather O'Reilly, who retired from the national team in September, also left for Europe, signing with Arsenal last month. Manchester City is among the teams in the Champions League.
"Carli has had an incredible career and is recognized as one of the best in the world", coach Nick Cushing said.
