Border Patrol agents in Arizona seized 47 pounds of marijuana that was catapulted from the Mexico side of the fence.
When agents arrived at the fence, they noticed several people running away.
When they got to the point in the fence where the group had been, they found that a catapult had been rigged to the fence on the Mexican side.
They tipped off the Mexican agents, and it turns out it was a large catapult used to launch drugs from the Mexican town of Agua Prieta, Mexico to Arizona. Border Patrol agents dismantled the catapult system. However, he adds, smugglers still tend to use traditional methods to bring drugs across the border through the ports of entry.
Last year, authorities at the same border crossing discovered 2,493 pounds of marijuana that had been disguised as carrots.
Border officials in the United States and Mexico worked together recently to dismantle a catapult that had been attached to the border fence in Douglas to launch drugs over the border. Reporting suspicious activity to any law enforcement agency could result in saving someone's life.
