Suarez out of Copa del Rey final

Real Madrid legend Raul has lamented his former club's failure to reach the Copa del Rey final - adding that the disappointment is worse because fierce rivals Barcelona have made it.

Initially, Suarez would have been handed a one-game ban after he received two yellow cards.

Looking to aid Barca's quest for first place is lead striker and joint-top scorer Lionel Messi, who is 1/2 to score his 17 goal of the season.

Having seen their initial appeal rejected, Barcelona will take their case to the RFEF appeals committee in a bid to have the decision overturned. The club has gone this route before but has not been successful.

Lucaz Vazquez was hauled down in the box on 90 minutes and though his penalty shouts were ignored, he did have the last word by chipping Sirigu for his first league goal of the season on the game's final play.

The Uruguay global was sent off by referee Jesus Gil Manzano in the last few minutes of the fiery encounter with Atletico after he appeared to elbow Los Rojiblancos midfielder Koke in the face while contesting for the ball.

The Uruguay global was punished for the dismissal, as well as for not going straight to the changing room after leaving the pitch. He ability is to get by a defender and get into open areas to create scoring opportunities. Instead of defending a three-headed monster (Messi, Neymar, and Suarez) it will now be two. Barcelona will need its other attackers to step up in Suarez absence.

Los Blancos' rivalry with Barcelona is huge, so when Real president Florentino Perez threw doubt into where the fixture would be played it seemed like it was just sour grapes. The attack started from one of Sergio Busquets' simple passes that make things complicated for the opposition, and ended with a good finish off an exquisite cross from Aleix Vidal.
